Autumn is here

Autumn is here
With its servile companions
Lashing rain and freezing fog
The wind is blowing
The gum trees bend and shiver
The wind is howling
The forest groans under its attack
Mushrooms are popping up in a wink
The crickets look for shelter
In the house, getting  in our way
The frogs stick to the windows
Showing their pale tummy
As the night falls starless
The chimney rambles
The cat brings back mice
To play with them in the warmth
We huddle by the fire side.
