The day started with the trip
To the hospital to undergo
The planned removal of lump
In a day procedure.
Racism was present
Told I had an atrocious accent
At Admission Desk!
Trust had forgotten to come
As I was admitted while not knowing
Exactly what I was to suffer,
Thus blood pressure was up.
Waiting was short
The anaesthetist couldn't fit the drip
Three punctures in the arm
Felt like a punctured bike inner tube
Had to call the expert, nice gent with a cap
Knelt in front of me, made my day, it did,
Such a long time anyone did!
Rolled in the theatre
Asked to breath oxygen, though I bet it wasn't
Didn't have a choice, really
Eventually lost consciousness.
Woke up in the recovery room
Fuzzy headed but no pain
No nausea either, what a gain!
Went back to sleep
Woke up again with cleared brain
Still no pain
Partook of a sandwich brunch
Eatable but nothing to recommend.
Removal of wound dressing
Showed limitations of colour coding
Dr said pink dressing,
Nurse understood pink packaging
Turned out it was an orange wrapping.
Dressed up, picked up prescription,
For pain relief, still absent by the way
Pharmacist refused to deliver it
It was invalid
Quantity had to be written
Both as a number and as a word
Back to Dr to rectify this
Second visit to pharmacy
Prescription still denied
Illegal it was as it now wore
Two different signatures of Drs!
Something had to be done
Pharmacist in a huff and a puff
Went to confer with Drs
As it was the sixth prescription today
Returned soothed and agreeable
To deliver the said prescription
Free of charge, love that guy!
Went home, had something to eat
Walk to the gate, six hundred meters
To and fro, no too bad considering
Had a big rest afterwards
Twelve hours have passed
And still no pain, thus was my day.
