It hurts

Today It hurt badly
To see your picture
Splashed across my screen
Of your and your sweetheart
So much in love
So happy together
It still hurt
Don't get me wrong
I'm delighted and happy for you
To have found someone
Who ticked all the boxes
But it hurt nonetheless
I never agreed to the break
When it happened
It will be my greatest regret
I was not in charge
I didn't have a choice
I had to go with it
But the hole in my heart
Will never be filled
For I had opened it to you
My son to be
It will never happen
It could have been
It never will
It still hurts.

The dam

It is only a dam
At the bottom of the paddocks
It reflects the sky
In its various moods
Or does it only?
For I have seen it
White, reflecting nothing
Opaque with its whiteness.
I have seen it black
From the forest water run off
After a storm
Perfect scrying mirror .
I have seen it in lazy brown
Slowly shrinking in the drought
With the mud crackling around .
I have seen it pink
With the gumtree pollen
Spread on its surface.
I have seen it green
By the pure reflection
From the eucalyptus.
I have seen it silver
When the moon searches
For her own soul
On winter nights.
You would say
It's only a dam
Mirror of life
Empty illusion
Yet it's alive
With frogs, tadpoles
Yabbies, Fish
Even the odd tiger leech
Visited by Roos,
Water fowls, snakes,
Humans, dog and cat
It's a world in itself
Content to be.

The pact

Truth be told
'Twas the night
Like Juliet and Romeo
The spider and cockroach
Made their pact
Against life's harshness
To drown themselves.
Next morning
In the water glass
On the nightstand
The spider was found.
In the cat's water bowl
Floated the bush cockroach.
We'll never know for sure
What pushed them
To choose death over life
Only the knowledge
Life sometimes throws barriers
Too tall to climb
Who are we to judge?

Exercise 2

The wedding was off
The phones running hot
The bridesmaids doing their duty
Ringing around, Inviting
Everyone in the party
To come down to the pub
To celebrate the new bachelorette.

Exercise 1

Twas the summer 2018
Hot, sultry, stormy
Trees were falling
Right, left and centre
The track became impossible
Disappearing under the car
As she drove
Suddenly a huge carcass
As large as a dinosaur
Emerged from the swamp
Crashing into the windscreen
She never saw it coming.

Antipodean Summer

Yoga in the morning
Lunch
Siesta in the hammock
Gently rocked by breeze
Reading
Gingery mint tea
Jealous, yet?
You can't have it all
Antipodean summer day!

Having a white Christmas Downunder

When the sun is pushing
The temperature above the thirties
The fan huffing and puffing
Hot air wave after hot air wave
Without bringing any cooling
One is dreaming
Of a snowy white Christmas .

Bring the white tablecloth
The white folded serviettes
The white summer roses
As there can't be a Christmas meal
Without candles
May they be white
To make it fully
A white Christmas downunder.

PHON

Phon is as phoney
As a party can be
Look at its leader
Should I say founder
It's all about her
The name shows it all
Each candidate
Be it state or federal
Is an insult to reason
Climate change deniers
Entrenched racists and fascists
It goes hand in hand
Ultra Nationalists of course
What a collection she's got
Couldn't be better
Looking after the Aussie battlers
What a joke, what a scam
Phoney it is!
