TSL Pandorathon Prompt May 12 (given by Nandini Mehra )
Today’s prompt is about something we live with all our lives, our names.
You can write about:
Your name/surname/married name and how it connects to your gender and/or identity.
or
An exploration of a different name for yourself, one that you would choose.
Poems or prose ( not more than 500 words) welcome. Brevity will be appreciated. 📷
Some questions
What is in a name? A case of identity?
A calling, I wonder. Lucette is my name.
Mother wished a different one,
Carmen to be mine.
The matriarch of the family overrode her,
Unfortunately I don’t know the story
Both of them have disappeared
In the mist of the past.
Learning Latin during the pandemic
It was with surprise I learnt
Carmen is a song, poem or poetry.
Is it a coincidence I end up
Pottering in poetry?
Was is fate?
Was my mother a seer?
I guess I’ll never know.
My grandmother Lucie
Being a strong woman
Passed her name
To her daughter and me
I admit I broke the tradition.
Still I like to think
My mother had chosen well.
Maybe my second name
Turns to be Carmen after all.
