#Prompt : Today our prompt (optional, of course) is another oldie-but-goodie : a poem based on a news article. Frankly, I understand why you might be avoiding the news lately, but this is a good opportunity to find some “weird” and poetical news stories for inspiration.

Homage to Eugene Ionesco
Spoof on The Bald Prima Donna
Today while I was shopping
I saw something simply stupendous
But I don’t know if you’ll believe me
It’s so unbelievable really
I’m not sure it’s worth telling though
Telling it straight like this
If you insist then I shall
As I have already mentioned
On my way to the shopping centre
I went through the park
And I saw a man
About thirty years old
Dressed in a jean and teeshirt
I know it’s astonishing
I saw this man
Who was seated on a bench
All by himself in the park
Amazing isn’t?
What was he doing on the bench?
He was eating a kebab
Astounding really
A man sitting on a bench eating a kebab
In full social isolation
Can you imagine the gall of this man ?
What’s wrong with that? You ask
Ask the cops
Who fined him $1000
For eating a kebab
Sitting on a bench by himself
In the park
I knew you wouldn’t believe me!
