Absence
The bookcase is still there empty
Her books have disappeared
So many hours reading aloud
The Lord of the Rings trilogy
Took us a year to go trough
What fun we had with the riddles
Singing the songs
Tripping on strange sounding names
So many discussions on
What was going to happen next
Who was our favourite character
Our bed time ritual was a stretched affair
One more chapter she would plead
I was only too happy to oblige
All those years gone
In the flick of a page
Later still even as a teenager
We would read a chapter each
During a rainy afternoon
It amused me
How she took our latest volume
And put it in her bookcase
I stare at the empty space on the shelves.
