The green slippers

Falling asleep on the settee
By the fireside
The dog by my side
A book in my hands
on a Sunday evening
Why,  but why did Sylvia Plath
Wear green slippers?
It woke me up
So strong the lime colour was
I understand the red slippers
Worn by Dorothy
Of the wizard of Oz fame
But why would Sylvia Plath
Wear green ones?
Such are the vagaries of one's brain
Death is always coming in colour
Can't explain why
But so it is in the most fluorescent hues
One can imagine
She is not a discreet lady.
