I have spent so many hours
By your side
Watching the mesmerising
Reflection of the gum trees
On your dark surface
Twisting, rippling, decomposing
Rebuilding the clouds above
At the weakest hint of a breeze
The moving picture changes
There on the edge of our world
You have the busiest social life
Your guests are numerous
Roos, snakes, birds, echidnas
All come to you to quench their thirst
Dragon flies wedge their love life
Endlessly zooming in the hot air
From one end to the other
With their stretched translucent diamanté wings
At first sight you appear
A desolate stretch of dark water
But you're teaming with life
Yabbies and leaches included
Invite the black cormorants
And the white faced herons
To a feast in the summer heat
So it's no wonder that I too
Visit you everyday .
