Simple pleasures

I am a poet with a rooster under my arm
Every day we pace the grounds together
In company of the dog and the cat
Searching wild orchids growing in the swamp
Not many to report so far
The dog chasing after stones,
Please don't ask,
The cat slithering from tree to tree
Making sure one can't see it
But shadowing us it does
It is all rather silly, really
If Sartre could walk his lobster
I don't see why I shouldn't walk my rooster
My dog and cat all together
Simple pleasures of a simple mind!
