Waterlogged

Month in, month out
Rain, continuous rain
The world is curtained by rain
Bog, swamp and mud
Are no longer words
But avatars of an aqueous world
Ants are on the move to gain
Higher ground and dry terrain
While I trod in gum boots
Squishing the glistening paddocks
With each step sinking
Deeper in that elemental water.

Crowing from the roof of the kennel
The rooster, vows to bring back
The sun, who has forgotten us
The moon is absent too
Maybe a tryst between these two
Is a sufficient excuse
To explain the dubious precipitation .

Unfathomable the rain keeps
To its own relentless schedule
Day and night inexorably,
Month in, month out
Rain, continuous rain
The world is curtained by rain.
